Hostile surveillance

Is someone watching? The signs families miss

SJ Group International Readiness Brief: Hostile surveillance, is someone watching? The signs families miss

Serious threats are rarely out of the blue. There is usually a quiet period of watching first, and it often gets noticed but brushed off.

The signs

  • The same car or face, in different places

  • Someone photographing the house or the gates

  • Unusual questions to staff about your routine

  • Strangers taking an interest in the children

  • Calls or deliveries that check if you are home

  • Friend requests from people nobody quite knows

If something feels off

  1. Note the time, place and details

  2. Never confront or follow anyone

  3. Tell staff to report anything odd

  4. Speak to the police or your adviser

Remember: Once is chance. Twice, write it down.
