Alan Brown OBE QPM
Senior Adviser

Alan Brown OBE QPM is a Senior Adviser to SJ Group International and a former Assistant Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, where he held national responsibility for firearms, hostage negotiation, and kidnap and extortion. After his policing career, he spent 16 years at Tesco as an Associate Director responsible for safety, fraud, information security and business continuity.
At the Met, Alan led some of the most demanding areas of UK policing, including the police use of firearms and live crimes such as kidnap and extortion. He commanded the emergency services' response to the 7/7 terrorist attacks in London, and was awarded the OBE and the Queen's Police Medal for services to policing.
At Tesco, Alan was an Associate Director working with the main executive board, responsible for non-commercial regulatory risk across a multinational retailer. He brought the discipline of operational risk management into decision-making across the business, including its resilience through the Covid-19 pandemic.
Since leaving Tesco, Alan has advised FTSE 100 businesses on identifying and managing risk.
At SJ Group International, he advises boards and leadership teams on risk and crisis governance, and brings a rare view of a crisis from both sides: the police response and the boardroom.
