Katey Martin

Katey Martin is a Senior Consultant at SJ Group International and a founding member of the UK Counter-Terrorism Negotiation Team. A former hostage, crisis and counter-terrorism negotiator and Kidnap Commander, she has more than 30 years of law enforcement experience covering counter-terrorism, kidnap, extortion and crisis incidents.

Katey was trained by both the FBI and Scotland Yard. As the UK lead for counter-terrorism negotiation training, she designed and delivered training for law enforcement and security agencies around the world. She co-authored the European Union's official guidance on counter-terrorism negotiation and led the EU's inaugural training courses.

In operational roles, she worked on the UK Government's response to complex international kidnap cases, and led high-stakes negotiations and deployments in the UK and overseas.

At SJ Group International, Katey advises families, companies and their advisers on high-stakes negotiations of every kind, designs and runs crisis exercises, and trains leadership teams to communicate and make decisions under pressure. She co-leads the firm's immersive crisis management course at Bylaugh Hall with Becks Cant.
